Public school teachers were trained to implement the "Reading and Writing Workshop" model as a method to teaching literacy and fully engaging the child in his or her own learning. The summer literacy camp in 2011 included four times the number of students from the previous summer.

The main objective of this project was to promote reading and instill a lifetime love of reading for students. In many cases this provided a second chance to ensure they continued their education and not drop out of school.

Cycle One students from three public schools were given specialized reading and writing attention during the school day with the support of leveled books.
